Philosophy

Classical Christian study within The Master's Study (TMS) has been created to support this effort for home educating families in the Indianapolis area. Our focus is teaching liberal arts from a Classical and historically Christian perspective.

TMS is a home school tutelage program that meets once every other week for classes. Our program operates on an historical four-year cycle that includes:

  • Ancients
  • Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Reformation
  • Classical and Baroque
  • Romantic and Modern Times

TMS is committed to teaching from a biblical world view. This means that all study is rooted in an understanding of reality as described through God's revelation via the Bible and manifested in culture.
TMS seeks for its students not only to master data, but the connections of how and why behind the data. Thus, during a year covering the Baroque period, TMS students will learn about Napoleon's reign, how many symphonies Beethoven wrote, and how many signatories were included in the founding of our Constitution.

But TMS students in the rhetoric level will also learn to critically assess the why's and the how's behind the facts. How did the French Revolution and Napoleon's world view affect Beethoven’s music and our Constitution? What similarities can be observed about our contemporary culture?  Our rhetoric students learn how to defend their findings with their teachers and fellow classmates.

TMS trains children to critically assess their culture by understanding the world views of those who affected culture throughout the history of Western Civilization. TMS seeks to help train young people to develop the necessary inventory of critical thinking skills so that they can effectively reach their culture for Christ.

Faith Statement

The Master’s Study has a formal Doctrinal Statement. Below represents a summary of core beliefs.

  • The Bible is inspired, inerrant, and the only Word of God.
  • God is triune: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus Christ was both God and man.
  • The Son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross and rose from the grave as the only hope for sinners to be saved from sin.
  • To be saved from one’s sin, one must confess with his mouth, “Jesus is the Lord” and believe in his heart that the Son, Jesus Christ, was raised from the dead.
  • In the future, Jesus Christ will return to set up His eternal kingdom.
